​Deschutes River Cyclery in Olympia, Washington is seeking both a full and part-time bicycle mechanic. Bicycle mechanic must be proficient in repairing new as well as older and vintage bicycles to the highest standard. This is not an entry-level position. We are seeking experienced mechanics who can multi-task and handle a wide range of bike service and sales. Compensation will be decided based on level of expertise.

About Deschutes River Cyclery:
We are a small, family owned business with two locations - one in Tumwater, WA and more recently, have opened a shop in the Downtown Olympia neighborhood. Our staff is fairly like-minded. We strive towards making our shop environment an inviting, and non-intimidating space for everyone. This includes a non-tolerance of sexist, transphobic, racist and hateful behavior. Because our staff is small, we work as a team, and are always trying to learn from each other and learning how to work better together. We are excited to expand and are seeking someone who not only will be an exceptional mechanic with great customer service skills, but will work well with our existing staff.
Responsibilities:
  • Interface with the customer to assess service needs
  • Inspect, repair, and service customers' bicycles
  • Assist in generating bike and accessory sales
  • Responding to telephone inquiries, calling customers to discuss repair work, etc
  • Complete accurate work order paperwork and prioritize work orders in an expedient manner
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to customers
  • Demonstrate a professional standard of customer service
  • Remain current on industry products and trends, and demonstrate knowledge of products
  • Be able to recognize and respond to changes in the work priorities of the service department as indicated by volume or other circumstances
  • Test ride all completed service work to verify performance
  • Be able to recognize and respond to opportunities to build customer loyalty through the delivery of prompt, accurate service
Qualifications: 
  • Minimum of 2 year bike mechanic experience in a retail store
  • Can perform technical service: Basic tune-ups to complete overhauls
  • Assist in day-to-day operations of the shop
  • Has unrivaled patience and troubleshooting skills
  • Previous experience with various bike components, service tools, and machinery
  • Ability to build all levels of bikes from the box to a safe, ride ready bike
  • Basic computer skills and LightSpeed POS system experience are helpful
  • Commitment to exceptional customer service
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
